Strict Ebola Alert Issued at Delhi Airport

Amid growing concerns over the spread of the Ebola virus in several countries, the Central Government has stepped up precautionary measures across India. In particular, health screening and surveillance of passengers at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi have been intensified. The Directorate General of Health Services under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has issued detailed guidelines regarding the preventive measures.

According to the advisory, special monitoring is being carried out for passengers arriving in India from Ebola-affected countries such as Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, and South Sudan. Travelers showing symptoms like high fever, severe weakness, headache, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhea, sore throat, or unexplained bleeding have been instructed to immediately report to airport health desks and medical officials. Mandatory health screening before immigration clearance has also been advised.

Ebola Virus Disease is considered a severe and life-threatening viral illness. The disease spreads through direct contact with the blood, body fluids, or infected animals carrying the virus. Symptoms may appear within 2 to 21 days after infection. Therefore, international travelers have been advised to monitor their health for 21 days and contact health authorities immediately if any symptoms develop.

The Health Ministry has also directed airport authorities, airlines, and healthcare agencies to remain on high alert. Separate observation facilities, isolation arrangements for suspected cases, and laboratory testing mechanisms have been kept ready.

The Central Government clarified that no major Ebola outbreak has been detected in India so far. However, considering international travel movement and the global health situation, precautionary steps are being taken in advance. The government has urged the public not to believe rumors, remain cautious, and seek medical advice whenever necessary.
