Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) scripted history with a stunning seven-wicket victory over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in a thrilling IPL encounter played at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Stadium in Raipur. Star batter Virat Kohli emerged as the hero of the match with a sensational unbeaten century that guided RCB to one of their most memorable victories.
Chasing a challenging target of 193 runs, RCB achieved the target in 19.1 overs with four wickets in hand. The team did not have the best of starts as Jacob Bethell was dismissed for 15 runs. However, Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal steadied the innings with a crucial partnership for the second wicket. Padikkal contributed 39 runs, while Rajat Patidar added 11 runs.
Virat Kohli anchored the innings brilliantly and remained unbeaten on 105 runs off 60 balls, smashing 10 fours and 3 sixes. He completed his century in just 58 deliveries. With this innings, Kohli became the first Indian batter to register 10 centuries in T20 cricket.
The chase also became the highest successful run chase in IPL history at the Raipur venue. Incidentally, the previous record at the ground was also held by RCB, who had chased down 167 runs against Mumbai Indians earlier.
Earlier in the match, KKR posted a competitive total of 192/4 in their allotted 20 overs. Angkrish Raghuvanshi played a superb knock of 71 runs off 46 balls, while Rinku Singh remained unbeaten on 49 off 29 balls. Cameron Green chipped in with 32 runs. Ajinkya Rahane and Finn Allen provided a solid start with scores of 19 and 18 respectively. For RCB, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Josh Hazlewood, and Rasikh Salam picked up one wicket each.
With this victory, RCB moved to the top of the points table with 16 points, although a playoff berth is yet to be officially secured. Meanwhile, despite the defeat, KKR still remains in contention for the playoffs. If the team manages to win its remaining three matches, it could qualify with 15 points.
