Before the T20 Asia Cup 2025, a retired cricketers’ league was held in England. In this tournament, senior Indian cricketers boycotted the match against Pakistan. The reason behind this was the massacre in Pahalgam carried out by Pakistan-backed terrorists. The attack was intended to incite communal violence.
Following this incident, voices started rising on social media demanding that India should boycott the Asia Cup match against Pakistan. However, the Government of India and the BCCI have made it clear that such an action is not possible.
BCCI secretary Debajit Saikia, in a conversation with NDTV, stated that whether it is cricket or any other sport, the Indian team plays according to the national policy and guidelines of the central government. Therefore, boycotting the Asia Cup match against Pakistan is not possible.
Saikia further clarified that if India boycotts a match against Pakistan in a multinational tournament, the team could face sanctions. The central government has formulated this policy keeping in mind the interests of the federation, the team, and the players.
Notably, the much-anticipated clash between India and Pakistan will be played on September 14.
