A major piece of good news has arrived for the people of Koraput. After a long-standing demand, a direct train service has finally been launched between Sabara Srikhetra Koraput and Srikhetra Puri. The new rail connectivity is expected to greatly ease travel for thousands of passengers from Koraput and other parts of South Odisha.
For years, passengers travelling to Puri had to face inconvenience due to the absence of a direct train service, often requiring multiple train changes and long travel hours. Devotees visiting Lord Jagannath Temple in Puri were among the most affected. With the introduction of this direct train, the long-pending issue has now been addressed.
The train will depart from Koraput at 5:00 AM and reach Puri at 10:20 PM. Similarly, it will leave Puri at 7:00 AM and arrive in Koraput at 11:30 PM. The service will connect Koraput with several districts of Western and Southern Odisha.
Passengers have expressed great enthusiasm over the launch of the new train. Traders, tourists, and Jagannath devotees have welcomed the initiative. It is expected that the new rail link will also boost tourism and commercial activities in the region.
Local residents have further demanded that the train service be extended to Jeypore in the future, which would benefit people from neighbouring districts such as Malkangiri and Nabarangpur as well.
