Heavy rain lashes Odisha due to Bay of Bengal low-pressure, red alert in 4 districts

Due to the formation of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, continuous rainfall is occurring across the state. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely today. A red warning has been issued for four districts — Deogarh, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, and Jharsuguda. Similarly, an orange warning has been issued for Puri, Khordha, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Angul, Cuttack, Koraput, and Nabarangpur districts. Heavy rainfall is expected to continue in the state until the 5th.

The heavy rain has led to a rise in the water levels of the Baitarani, Budhabalanga, Jalaka, and Subarnarekha rivers, with further rise anticipated. Several areas in Balasore district have been submerged, while Malkangiri district has also been affected.

In Malkangiri, water is flowing over two bridges, disrupting traffic movement. Police have been deployed to monitor the situation. Stranded passengers are being provided with dry food and baby food.

Additionally, arrangements are being made for water drainage. Fire services, NDRF, and ODRAF teams have been deployed in vulnerable areas.
