The historic Bali Jatra of Cuttack is set to feature several new attractions this year, with a special focus on environmental protection and international outreach. The iconic fair is being planned as a polythene-free event, alongside initiatives to make it more attractive on the global stage. The week-long festival will be held from November 24 to December 1.
The state government has proposed a grant of ₹10 crore for the आयोजन of Bali Jatra. A high-level review meeting chaired by Culture Minister Suryabanshi Suraj on Tuesday discussed the preparations, organizational arrangements and various facilities planned for the festival.
This year, Odisha’s handloom and handicraft sectors will receive special prominence at the fair. The Odisha Rural Development and Marketing Society (ORMAS) will set up 500 stalls, providing local artisans and craftspeople with opportunities to showcase and sell their traditional products and artistic creations.
In a significant step towards enhancing the festival’s international profile, a delegation from Bali, Indonesia, is also expected to participate in the event. The initiative aims to strengthen the historic, cultural and maritime trade links between ancient Kalinga and Bali.
Special arrangements will be made at the ‘Cuttack in Cuttack’ pavilion to highlight these historical connections. A digital information wall will also be installed, enabling visitors to explore the ancient relationship between Bali and Kalinga, along with their rich heritage and cultural traditions.
The organizers are aiming to make this year’s Bali Jatra more attractive, environmentally sustainable and culturally enriching. The review meeting also examined arrangements for effective festival management, visitor convenience and other essential facilities.
With its focus on environmental awareness, traditional craftsmanship and international cultural exchange, this year’s Bali Jatra is poised to emerge not merely as a commercial fair, but as a grand platform celebrating Odisha’s rich heritage, traditions and cultural identity.
