ICAR-IIWM Organized National Conference on Climate-Smart Crop Intensification

The ICAR–Indian Institute of Water Management (IIWM), Bhubaneswar, in collaboration with the Odisha Chapter of the Indian Society of Water Management (ISWAM), New Delhi, organized a two-day National Seminar on “System of Crop Intensification for Climate-Smart, Water and Nutrient-Efficient Agriculture” at Bhubaneswar.

Dr. P.K. Mishra, Former Director, ICAR-IISWC, Dehradun, inaugurated the seminar as Chief Guest. In his inaugural address, he highlighted that under the prevailing climate change scenario, the System of Crop Intensification (SCI) would play a crucial role in enhancing crop production and productivity.

Guest of Honour Dr. P.J. Mishra, Dean Extension, OUAT, emphasized the need for such seminars to address the challenges faced by farmers. Guest of Honour Dr. H.K. Patro, Former Dean, College of Agriculture, OUAT, Bhubaneswar, stressed that the SCI approach would support conservation and efficient utilization of natural resources.

Earlier, Dr. Arjamadutta Sarangi, Director of IIWM, delivered the welcome address and shared introductory remarks. Dr. A.K. Thakur, Organizing Secretary, briefed about the conference programme, while Dr. K.K. Bandyopadhyay, Secretary of ISWAM, Odisha Chapter, proposed the vote of thanks.

The two-day seminar witnessed the participation of over 200 scientists, students, and 50 progressive farmers from across the country, who deliberated on innovations and strategies for sustainable, climate-smart agriculture.
