On July 2–3, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a historic visit to Ghana, becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to do so in over three decades. He received a grand ceremonial welcome in Accra, marked by a 21-gun salute and vibrant cultural performances. In recognition of his global statesmanship and leadership, PM Modi was conferred Ghana’s prestigious civilian award, the "Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana." During the visit, India and Ghana elevated their bilateral ties to a Comprehensive Partnership and signed four key Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs). These included agreements on cultural exchange, standards cooperation, collaboration in traditional medicine (Ayurveda), and the establishment of a Joint Commission Mechanism for regular dialogue. The two leaders also discussed deepening cooperation in trade, agriculture, healthcare, digital payments, defence, and critical minerals.
