Nepal situation improves, Kathmandu airport reopened

After a slight improvement in the situation in Nepal, the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu has been reopened. A meeting decided that the airport would be opened for passengers from 4 PM on Wednesday. The process of bringing back stranded Indian tourists from the airport has also started. Passengers have been advised to contact their respective airlines to confirm flight timings.

Earlier, violence had erupted in Nepal over restrictions on social media. In this situation, Prime Minister K.P. Oli and President Ram Chandra Paudel had resigned from their posts. Considering the unrest, the Kathmandu airport had been closed indefinitely. On Tuesday, two flights had to return mid-air. Additionally, Air India flights operating on the Delhi-Kathmandu-Delhi route — AI2231/2232, AI2219/2220, and AI217/218 — were cancelled.
