Under the CSIR-Smart Village Mission, a Terafil Water Filter Distribution and Skill Development Programme was successfully organized at Kusunpur Village, Kendrapara District, Odisha. The programme was jointly conducted by CSIR-Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology (CSIR-IMMT), Bhubaneswar, and CSIR-Central Building Research Institute (CSIR-CBRI), Roorkee, with the objective of promoting access to safe drinking water and enhancing livelihood opportunities through skill development. On this occasion, a tree plantation drive was also organised, along with the planting and distribution of saplings.
On this occasion, Dr. Ramanuj Narayan, Director, CSIR-IMMT, reaffirmed the institute’s commitment to improving village life through scientific interventions. He highlighted the benefits of Terafil filters for better water quality and announced initiatives on skill development, soil analysis, and improved farming practices. Prof. Pradeep Kumar Ramancharla, Director, CSIR-CBRI, emphasized the vision of developing Kusunpur as a model smart village through science-based solutions, focusing on better livelihoods, infrastructure, and local development.
Dr. Santosh Behera and Mr. Prabhas Chandra Beuria explained how the Terafil Water Filter works, its benefits, and how to maintain it. Mr. D.B. Singh conducted a live demonstration to help villagers understand its proper use and upkeep. Participants were also informed about the importance of clean and safe drinking water, the health risks of contaminated water, and ways to prevent water contamination. Information about the Jigyasa Programme and future skill development opportunities was also shared with them.
Speaking to the community, Shri Birajaprasad Pati of Nature’s Club highlighted the importance of science and technology in providing sustainable solutions for rural communities and assured continued support for future development activities under the mission.
The programme was hosted by Dr. Manish Kumar and coordinated by Mr. Bhuvan Sahu and Mr. Jeeban Acharya, with support from the Nature’s Club Climate Champions.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Kishor S. Kulkarni, who expressed gratitude to all the stakeholders and participants for their valuable contributions and support.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from villagers and stakeholders, including Shri Chittaranjan Pada, Sarpanch, Mrs. Susmita Swain, Panchayat Member, village representatives, and other community members.
A major highlight of the event was the distribution of Terafil Water Filters to all households in Kusunpur Village, ensuring improved access to clean and safe drinking water. The initiative will significantly reduce the incidence of water-borne diseases and contribute to improved public health and well-being in the village.
