Bahuda Yatra Preparations Begin in Puri; Shri Gundicha Temple Closed for Public Darshan from 6 PM

In Puri, preparations are in full swing for the sacred Bahuda Yatra—the return journey of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra from the Shri Gundicha Temple to the Shree Jagannath Temple. As part of the rituals, the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has announced that public darshan at Shri Gundicha Temple will be suspended from 6 PM today, July 4. This temporary restriction is meant to allow ceremonial cleansing (Shodha) and other essential rituals before the deities begin their return journey on July 5.

The closure of the temple’s Lion’s Gate (Singhadwara) ensures that the sanctity of the temple is preserved and that the space is spiritually prepared for the Bahuda Yatra. Devotees have been thronging the temple over the past few days for Adapa Mandap Darshan, which concludes today. The temple administration has appealed to all devotees for their cooperation during this time to maintain discipline and respect for the rituals.

Following the Bahuda Yatra on July 5, the Suna Besha (Golden Attire ceremony) will take place on July 6, where the deities are adorned with gold ornaments atop their chariots. Finally, the rituals will conclude with Niladri Bije on July 8, marking the re-entry of the deities into the sanctum of the Shree Jagannath Temple.
