A tragic road accident occurred on Sunday in Gonda district of Uttar Pradesh. A Bolero vehicle lost control and fell into the Saryu canal, leading to the death of 11 people. The victims were on their way to offer water at the Prithvinath Temple. There were 13 passengers in the Bolero, most of whom belonged to the same family. Women and children were also among the deceased.
According to reports, the accident happened near the Sihagaon-Khargupur road under Motiganj police station. Eyewitnesses stated that continuous rainfall had severely damaged the canal-side road. The Bolero was moving at a high speed, lost control, and plunged into the canal.
Local residents rushed to the spot and began rescue operations immediately, also informing the police. Police and fire brigade teams admitted the injured to the hospital, but unfortunately, 11 lives could not be saved. All the bodies were recovered from the canal. The incident has cast a shadow of grief over the entire area.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed deep sorrow over the incident. He directed officials to ensure proper treatment for the injured and announced an ex-gratia compensation of ₹5 lakh for the families of each deceased.
