It has been nearly seven months since the central government announced the formation of the Eighth Pay Commission, but no concrete steps have been taken so far towards its implementation. This has left central employees curious and waiting. As per the latest reports, its rollout may be pushed back to 2028. Based on past trends, each pay commission is implemented at an interval of around ten years. The Sixth Pay Commission was implemented in 2006 and the Seventh in 2016. Hence, the Eighth Pay Commission is also likely to be introduced between 2026 and 2028. For now, employees are getting some relief through Dearness Allowance (DA) hikes, but a new salary structure may take longer. The main aim of the commission will be to adjust employees’ income in line with inflation, with possible changes in basic pay, grade pay, allowances, and pension structure.
