Google has launched a new bug bounty program inviting researchers to identify vulnerabilities and security issues in its Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools and systems. If someone discovers a significant bug in Google’s AI systems, they will be rewarded. This initiative aims to enhance AI safety and promote responsible innovation.
According to Google, rewards of up to $20,000 (approximately ₹18 lakh) will be given for bugs found in key products such as Search, Gemini apps, Gmail, and Drive. If the report is of high quality and originality, the total reward can go up to $30,000 (approximately ₹26 lakh) including bonuses. This program provides researchers an opportunity to contribute to AI safety while earning substantial rewards.
Google clarified that “controversial” or “incorrect” responses from Gemini or any other AI models will not be considered bugs. Issues such as hate speech, offensive content, or copyright-related problems must be reported through the product’s “Feedback” section. The AI safety team will use these reports to retrain and strengthen the models further.
Additionally, Google has introduced a new AI tool called “Codemender.” This tool automatically detects and fixes bugs in open-source software. Google stated that Codemender has successfully resolved over 70 verified issues so far. This initiative demonstrates that AI technology not only poses risks but also plays a crucial role in enhancing security and making technology safer.
