India Crush South Africa by 101 Runs; Jasprit Bumrah Creates Historic Bowling Record

At the historic Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, India registered a massive 101-run victory over South Africa in the first match of the five-match T20 series. In the packed stadium, Team India played aggressive cricket right from the beginning. The Indian bowlers, in particular, delivered a dominant performance and completely changed the course of the match. The South African batsmen were under pressure from the start and kept losing wickets against India’s fiery pace attack.

India’s fast-bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah was the star of the match. He bowled 3 overs, conceding just 17 runs and taking 2 wickets, while adding two major milestones to his name. Bumrah completed 100 wickets in T20 internationals, becoming only the second Indian bowler to achieve this feat. Moreover, he became the first Indian bowler to take more than 100 wickets in all three formats—Test, ODI, and T20—creating a new chapter in Indian cricket. Globally, he is the fifth bowler to reach this mark, after Lasith Malinga, Tim Southee, Shakib Al Hasan, and Shaheen Afridi. Bumrah now holds 234 Test wickets, 149 ODI wickets, and 100 T20I wickets.

Batting first, India posted a strong total of 175 runs for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs. Middle-order batsman Hardik Pandya played a crucial role with an unbeaten half-century, providing stability to the innings. Several other players contributed with small but important knocks, helping India reach a competitive total.

While chasing, South Africa’s innings collapsed under pressure. The Indian bowlers used swing and tight line-lengths to perfection, bowling out the entire South African team for just 74 runs in 12.3 overs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Siraj, and Arshdeep Singh also delivered effective spells alongside Bumrah, completely dismantling the South African batting lineup.

With this emphatic victory, India has taken a 1–0 lead in the T20 series. Earlier, India had also won the ODI series 2–1, boosting the team’s confidence. Team India now aims to continue this strong performance and clinch the series in the upcoming matches.
