In the coming days, a ‘Jagannath Batika’ will be established in every panchayat across Odisha. This announcement was made by Deputy Chief Minister Prabhati Parida. The purpose of these gardens is to ensure a sustainable supply of timber required for chariot construction.
In the Nimapada region, 105 acres of government land have already been identified for the development of such a Batika. Earlier, a special Jagannath Batika was developed within Ekamra Kanan in Bhubaneswar, where various trees essential for rituals and chariot making were planted.
These Batikas will include trees like Limb, Simili, Dhaura, Paldhua, Phasi, Asan, Kans, and Gambhari, which are necessary for chariot making. In addition, plants such as Bel, Salpatta, Clove, Agnibathu, Gokhru, Ankurati, Chandrika, Rajnigandha, Juhi, Mallika, Champa, Baul Flower, Ketaki, Nakchana, Marigold, Lotus, Kathchampa, Guava, Pomegranate, Cucumber, Papaya, Pejuli, Mango, Harida, Bahada, and Amla will also be planted for medicinal and aromatic purposes.
