Sivakarthikeyan’s Madharaasi opened to a solid start at the box office, collecting around ₹13–15 crore in India and an estimated ₹21 crore worldwide gross on its first day. The film performed particularly well in Tamil Nadu and secured the position of the 5th or 6th biggest Tamil opener of 2025, though it was far behind giants like Coolie and Good Bad Ugly. In comparison, Rajinikanth’s Coolie had stormed the box office earlier this year with a record-breaking ₹150–151 crore worldwide gross on Day 1, including about ₹44.5 crore from Tamil Nadu alone, setting a new benchmark in Tamil cinema. While Madharaasi showed strong momentum with a 123% jump on Day 2, reaching nearly ₹45.38 crore worldwide with about ₹15 crore from overseas markets, it still couldn’t come close to matching Coolie’s historic performance. Essentially, Madharaasi delivered one of Sivakarthikeyan’s best openings and a respectable global footprint, but Rajinikanth’s Coolie continues to dominate as the undisputed record-holder both in India and overseas.
