During the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar, nearly three lakh voters have been served notices whose citizenship is being considered “doubtful.” According to the Election Commission, the final voter list of Bihar will be published on September 30. Before that, the names of more than three lakh such ‘doubtful’ voters may be removed.
As per the information, the names of these “doubtful” voters were published in Bihar’s draft voter list on August 1. If the voters who have received notices fail to submit documents proving their Indian citizenship, their names will not be included in the final voter list.
Based on SDM’s investigation reports, voters from districts like Kishanganj, Purnea, West Champaran, East Champaran, Araria, Saharsa, Madhubani, and Supaul have been issued notices. In fact, such cases are more prevalent in border areas adjoining Nepal and Bangladesh.
It is suspected that more than three lakh people might have illegally entered India from Bangladesh, Nepal, Myanmar, and Afghanistan and obtained voter registration using forged documents. After discrepancies were found in their documents during verification, the Election Registration Officers (EROs) issued notices to these doubtful voters.
