A tree plantation programme was organized today at the ICAR–Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi, to commemorate the 75th birthday of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji. Speaking on the occasion, Hon’ble Agriculture Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chauhan called upon citizens to take a pledge under the initiative “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”. He said, “On the 75th birthday of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, let us all resolve to plant at least one tree in the name of mother. Tree plantation is not only deeply rooted in our culture and traditions but also the simplest and most effective way to mitigate the adverse impacts of climate change.” He emphasized that trees are the foundation of life, providing oxygen, preventing soil erosion, maintaining groundwater levels, and absorbing atmospheric carbon to keep the earth in balance.

Dr. M.L. Jat, Secretary DARE & Director General, ICAR, highlighted the responsibility of every citizen in protecting Mother Earth. He urged everyone to pledge to plant at least one tree and nurture it. “Trees not only provide shade and fruits but also act as a protective shield for future generations,” he added.

Dr. Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director & Vice Chancellor, ICAR-IARI, informed that 75 trees were planted in the IARI campus to mark the Prime Minister’s 75th birthday. These included Kagzi Lemon, Pusa Arushi (guava), and improved mango varieties such as Pusa Arunima and Pusa Pratibha. He underlined that this plantation drive is not merely symbolic but represents a concrete step towards environmental protection, biodiversity conservation, and combating the challenges of climate change.

Scientists, scholars, and students actively participated in the plantation activities, spreading the message of environmental conservation and pledging to inspire society towards green growth and sustainable development.
