8th Pay Commission Chairperson and Members to Be Appointed After Official Notification

The much-awaited notification for the 8th Central Pay Commission (CPC) has been delayed as the Government continues to receive suggestions for the Terms of Reference (ToR) from various stakeholders.

Replying to a query in the Rajya Sabha, Union Minister of State for Finance, Pankaj Chaudhary, stated that inputs are still being collected from key Ministries such as Defence, Home Affairs, Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), and all States. These inputs were formally requested in January and February 2025.

“The official notification will be issued in due course once the inputs are finalized,” Chaudhary said. He further added that the Chairperson and Members of the 8th CPC will be appointed only after the notification is issued.

The Government had announced the constitution of the 8th Pay Commission in January 2025, which will review and revise salaries and pensions of Central Government employees and pensioners, expected to take effect from January 1, 2026. However, the formal announcement of pay hikes may come 1.5 to 2 years from now.

The new commission will also examine employee allowances and perks.
