A few days after announcing India’s squad for the Asia Cup 2025, the BCCI has taken another big step. Suryakumar Yadav was named captain and Shubman Gill vice-captain in the 15-member squad. Following this, the board has decided to appoint two new selectors for the senior men’s team. Applications for these posts have been invited from August 12. As per the BCCI’s press release, applications have also been sought for positions in the senior men’s, women’s, and junior men’s selection committees. The newly appointed selectors will be responsible for team selection across all formats – Tests, ODIs, and T20Is.
To be eligible as a national selector, only those cricketers who have played first-class cricket can apply. Candidates must have played at least 7 Tests or 30 first-class matches, or 10 ODIs and 20 first-class matches. They should have retired from cricket at least 5 years ago and must not have been part of any BCCI committee in the past five years.
The current selection panel includes Ajit Agarkar, Shiv Sundar Das, Subroto Banerjee, Ajay Ratra, and SS Sharath. According to reports, Sharath may be appointed as the head of the junior men’s selection committee, while former spinner Pragyan Ojha is likely to replace him in the senior panel.
