Dense Fog Wreaks Havoc Across North India, Multiple Deaths in Road Accidents

Dense fog across India has led to a series of road accidents, claiming several lives. In Uttar Pradesh alone, six people have died in separate incidents, while in Punjab, a couple lost their lives after their car fell off a bridge. Due to poor visibility caused by the fog, vehicles collided at multiple locations. More than 30 vehicles were involved in accidents in Uttar Pradesh, leaving several people injured.

On Sunday morning around 9 a.m., a sleeper bus rammed into a Bolero car on the Bundelkhand Expressway near Ichhauli in Hamirpur district. The accident claimed the lives of four people, including two brothers who were traveling in the Bolero. They were on their way from Mahoba to Prayagraj to immerse their mother’s ashes.

Meanwhile, on the Agra–Lucknow Expressway near Shadipur village in the Behata Mujawar area, close to an under-construction interchange of the Ganga Expressway, ten vehicles collided one after another. The accident resulted in the death of a bus driver and a motorcyclist. Following the incident, a traffic jam stretching nearly five kilometers developed and was cleared after three hours of effort.

On the Delhi–Meerut Expressway and the Eastern Peripheral Expressway, around ten vehicles collided due to fog, though no casualties were reported. Similarly, near Sangatpura village in Punjab, a car fell off a bridge, killing a teacher couple—Jaskaran Singh and his wife Kamaljit Kaur.

In Rajasthan’s Bharatpur district, two vehicles collided head-on in Didwali village due to dense fog, injuring three people. In Chittorgarh district, a collision between a trailer and a pickup vehicle left the pickup driver injured, while the fog also affected Dausa district.

Additionally, on Sunday, dense fog severely disrupted flight operations at the country’s largest airport, IGI Airport. Around 85 percent of departing flights and nearly one-third of arriving flights were delayed. The average delay for departing flights was about half an hour, while arriving flights were delayed by an average of five minutes.
