Football festival in chaos as stars fail to meet, Messi's event sparks controversy

What was supposed to be a memorable moment for football fans has turned into chaos and discontent. Fans from all over the country had thronged the Salt Lake Vivekananda Yuva Bharati Stadium in Kolkata hoping to catch a glimpse of world-famous football star Lionel Messi. But the situation was tense as Messi was only present for a few minutes and did not get a clear view.

Lionel Messi, who is on a three-day visit to India, arrived in Kolkata along with his old strike partner Luis Suarez and Argentina teammate Rodrigo de Paul. A special event was organised at the stadium today, for which fans spent thousands of rupees to buy tickets. However, administrative irregularities and lack of security arrangements were clearly visible. The audience was very unhappy when Messi stayed in the stadium for only 10 minutes and then left.

The excited fans threw chairs and bottles and tore hoardings and banners. Along with this, anger was also expressed against the West Bengal government and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. There were also allegations that the general audience could not see Messi properly due to the officials surrounding him.

Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan was also expected to attend the event, but he did not come, further increasing the disappointment among the fans. Despite the ticket prices starting from Rs 5,000 and going up to Rs 45,000, the fans expressed their feeling cheated as they could not even catch a good glimpse of Messi.
