GST collection in August 2025 rises to ₹1.86 lakh crore, 6.5% higher than last year

The Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council meeting will be held two days later. Ahead of this, a big update has come regarding GST. The GST collection in August 2025 has broken last year’s record. The GST collection in August 2025 stood at ₹1,86,315 crore, which is 6.5 percent higher than August 2024, when the collection was ₹1,74,962 crore. The central government released the details of GST collections on Monday. In July 2025, GST collection was ₹1.96 lakh crore.

According to the latest data released by the Union Finance Ministry, revenue in the last month rose by 9.6 percent to ₹1,36,962 crore. Out of this, Central GST contributed ₹34,076 crore, State GST ₹42,854 crore, and Integrated GST (IGST) ₹49,354 crore (including a 1.2 percent decline in import duty). In addition, cess collections stood at ₹807 crore.

GST refunds fell by 20 percent year-on-year to ₹19,359 crore. Domestic refunds dropped 21.4 percent to ₹11,014 crore, while export-import related refunds fell 17.9 percent to ₹8,346 crore. Thus, the total refund in August stood at ₹19,359 crore, which is 19.9 percent lower compared to the same month last year.

In the first five months of the current financial year (April to August 2025), total revenue rose 9.9 percent to ₹10,04,414 crore, while net revenue increased 8.8 percent to ₹8,78,096 crore.

Meanwhile, GST collections in April 2025 touched an all-time record. In April, the GST collection reached ₹2.37 lakh crore, the highest since the implementation of GST.
