India Scores Diplomatic Win at SCO Summit: Pahalgam Attack Condemned, Strong Stand Against Terrorism

India achieved a major diplomatic victory at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit. Neighboring Pakistan came under strong pressure. The SCO declaration mentioned the Pahalgam attack. Even China, which usually sides with Pakistan, strongly condemned terrorism at this summit.

The Shanghai Cooperation summit concluded successfully. Representatives from host China, India, Russia, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan participated. Prime Minister Narendra Modi openly discussed terrorism before the global community and made it clear that a double standard against terrorism would not be accepted. At the end of the summit, a joint declaration was issued.

Firm commitment against terrorism, separatism, and extremism – The SCO Council of Heads of State issued the Tianjin Declaration on Monday. It strongly condemned the April 11 Pahalgam terrorist attack, which shook the entire nation. Along with expressing condolences to the families of victims, the declaration emphasized punishing the attackers, their organizers, and sponsors. SCO member states reaffirmed their firm commitment against terrorism, separatism, and extremism. They stated clearly – terrorism will not be tolerated in any form and must be eradicated completely. Using terrorists, separatists, or extremists for self-interest is entirely wrong. The declaration also criticized double standards on terrorism.

One Earth – One Family – One Future – The theme of the declaration was "One Earth, One Family, One Future." The outcomes of the 5th SCO Startup Forum held in New Delhi from April 3 to 5 were welcomed, as it helped boost cooperation in science and technology. Similarly, the 20th SCO Think Tank Forum held on May 21–22 in New Delhi was also welcomed. The contribution of the SCO Study Centre at the Indian Council for World Affairs in strengthening cultural and humanitarian exchanges was also appreciated.
