India registered another strong victory in the Men’s Hockey Asia Cup 2025. After winning all three matches in the group stage, the Indian team secured its first win in the Super-4 round. Following a 2-2 draw against Korea in their opening Super-4 match, India bounced back in style, defeating Malaysia 4-1 to keep their hopes of reaching the final alive. With this win, India now sits at the top of the Super-4 points table.
For India, Manpreet Singh, Sukhjeet Singh, Shilanand Lakra, and Vivek Prasad scored one goal each. In the very second minute of the match, Malaysia’s Shafiq Hasan struck to give his team a 1-0 lead, which they held onto until the end of the first quarter.
In the 17th minute, Harmanpreet Singh missed a penalty corner, but Manpreet Singh quickly equalized to make it 1-1. Just two minutes later, Sukhjeet Singh scored to give India a 2-1 lead.
The second quarter saw India dominate completely, with Shilanand Lakra netting a goal in the 24th minute to make it 3-1. In just seven minutes, India scored three goals to establish a commanding lead.
In the 38th minute, Vivek Prasad added the fourth and final goal for India. The team maintained its 4-1 advantage until the end to seal a comprehensive victory.
With this win, India has almost secured a spot in the final. If Malaysia defeats Korea in their next match, India will reach the final even if they lose to China. However, if Malaysia beats Korea, India will need at least a draw or a win against China to qualify. India’s last Super-4 match is scheduled against China on September 6.
