In Indian cricket history, September 28, 2025, became a golden day. On this day, Rinku Singh’s winning shot helped Team India defeat Pakistan by 5 wickets and clinch the Asia Cup title for a record 9th time. However, the joy of this victory was overshadowed by the controversy that followed the final.
The post-match presentation ceremony was delayed until midnight. Some reports suggested that the Indian team did not want to receive the trophy from ACC chief Mohsin Naqvi, while other reports blamed the Pakistan team for the delay.
BCCI secretary Debojit Saikia leveled serious allegations in this regard. He stated that Pakistan Cricket Board and ACC president Mohsin Naqvi forcibly took away the trophy and the players’ individual medals from Team India. He clarified, “We had decided not to accept the trophy from Naqvi since he is a prominent Pakistani leader. But that doesn’t mean he should run away with the trophy and medals. This is against the spirit of the game and very unfortunate. We expect the trophy and medals to be returned to India soon.”
Saikia further said that the BCCI would file a formal protest regarding the entire incident and would also raise the matter at the upcoming ICC meeting in November.
Even though Team India defeated Pakistan for the third time in the tournament to register a historic win, the controversy that followed the final left Indian cricket fans with a bittersweet feeling.
