Indian Army Builds Monorail at 16,000 ft, Achieves Historic High-Altitude Milestone

The Indian Army is renowned for its courageous operations in remote and snow-covered regions. Amid the snow-clad peaks of the Himalayas, the Army has achieved yet another significant milestone. Near the China border, at an altitude of 16,000 feet, the Indian Army has constructed a monorail for the first time, setting a new record. To deliver essential supplies to the snow-bound outposts of Arunachal Pradesh, the Army’s Gajraj Corps has built this high-altitude monorail system.

According to the Army, this monorail can transport injured soldiers and up to 300 kilograms of heavy supplies from one post to another with ease. The Army has also released a video showing the monorail operating amidst snow in the Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh. In the video, soldiers can be seen transporting an injured comrade using the monorail.

Lieutenant Colonel Mahendra Rawat, the regional spokesperson of the Indian Army, stated, “Extreme cold, adverse weather conditions, and the rugged mountainous terrain made movement extremely challenging. This monorail will become a landmark in high-altitude logistics.”

Due to frequent snowfall, many Army posts remain cut off from the sector headquarters for days. Reaching these locations through trekking, mules, or other traditional transport methods was also highly difficult. Considering these challenges, the Gajraj Corps developed this new monorail system.

The Army has stated that the monorail will now enable faster and safer transportation of ammunition, fuel, engineering equipment, and other heavy supplies to forward posts, thereby enhancing operational efficiency in these remote and difficult terrains.
