The Indian women’s cricket team has been announced for the 2025 Women’s World Cup. In the 15-member squad announced by the national selectors, Smriti Mandhana has been named vice-captain. Several new faces, who have impressed in domestic cricket, have also been given a chance. However, explosive opener Shafali Verma has not been included in the squad this time. On the England tour, she scored 3, 47, 31 and 75 runs but failed to deliver consistent performances. Against Australia-A as well, she could manage only 3, 3 and 41 runs.
Selectors are banking on the opening pair of Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal to provide strong starts for India in the World Cup. Led by Harmanpreet Kaur, the squad features star batters like Smriti, Pratika, Harleen Deol, and Jemimah Rodrigues. In the bowling attack, Renuka Singh, Arundhati Reddy, Radha Yadav, and Sneh Rana will play key roles.
The Indian women’s team is yet to win a World Cup title, though they reached the finals in 2005 and 2017, ending as runners-up on both occasions. The 2025 World Cup will feature a total of 8 teams: India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, South Africa, Australia, England, and New Zealand. India will play its opening match against Sri Lanka on September 30.
