Japan shaken by powerful tremors, 6.2 magnitude earthquake

A moderate earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale struck western Japan in the early hours of Tuesday morning, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA). The epicenter was located in the eastern region of Shimane Prefecture.

As of the latest updates, no casualties or significant property damage have been reported. Authorities continue to closely monitor the situation.

The JMA confirmed that no tsunami warning was issued following the earthquake. Citizens have been urged to remain calm, avoid rumors, and rely solely on official government communications for accurate information.

While the JMA assessed the earthquake’s magnitude at 6.2, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported a slightly lower magnitude of 5.8, reflecting minor variations in measurement methodologies.

The Japanese Ministry of Defense has deployed military aircraft to conduct aerial surveillance and assess any potential damage. Officials have stated that no major damage has been confirmed so far.

In Yasugi City of Shimane Prefecture, the earthquake registered a maximum intensity of 5 on Japan’s seismic intensity (Shindo) scale. At this level, unsecured furniture may topple, and drivers may experience difficulty maintaining control of vehicles.

Following the tremor, local authorities and disaster management agencies have been placed on high alert. Residents have been advised to stay vigilant and be prepared for any emergency developments.
