The low-pressure area formed over the Bay of Bengal is currently active and moving forward, while another new low-pressure system is developing behind it. Along with this, a cyclonic circulation is also active over the South Andaman Sea region. According to the Meteorological Department, another new low-pressure system is likely to form by the evening of October 24. Under its influence, several parts of Odisha are likely to experience light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning over the next five days.
As per the IMD, there is no indication of a cyclone formation over the state as of now. However, due to the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon, scattered rainfall is likely in some areas, particularly in coastal districts, along with possible lightning activity. In view of this, Agriculture Secretary Dr. Padhi has urged farmers to follow the advisories issued by the Meteorological and Agriculture Departments.
Today, light to moderate rainfall is likely to occur over coastal and southern interior districts. A yellow warning has been issued for Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Puri, Khordha, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Bhadrak, and Balasore districts.
Similarly, light to moderate rainfall is also likely tomorrow over coastal and southern interior districts. The IMD has issued a yellow warning for 15 districts — Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Khordha, Puri, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, and Balasore — where thunder and lightning accompanied by rain are expected. The department has advised the public to remain cautious.
