At the State-level Weightlifting Championship held in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Vidusmita Bhoi from Odisha brought glory by winning the gold medal. Competing in the junior 63 kg category, she lifted 89 kg in snatch and 115 kg in clean and jerk, achieving a total of 204 kg to secure the title. Vidusmita has a history of consistent success; in the 71st Odisha State Weightlifting Championship held at Berhampur in 2024, she won one gold and one bronze medal. Earlier, she bagged two silver medals in 2023 and another silver in the 2022 state-level competition. Currently, she trains under coach Gopal Das in Dhenkanal. Her sister, Pritiswmita Bhoi, has also represented in the Commonwealth events. Experts believe that Vidusmita has the potential to emerge as one of India’s brightest prospects in women’s weightlifting at the national and international level.
