TCS Restructures Workforce, 12,000 Employees Affected with Comprehensive Severance Packages

Bhubaneswar/Mumbai: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), India’s largest IT services company, has launched a strategic workforce restructuring affecting approximately 12,000 employees, or around 2% of its global workforce. The move aims to enhance operational efficiency and adapt to emerging technological demands, particularly in artificial intelligence and automation. The realignment primarily targets employees whose skills no longer match evolving client requirements or who have not upskilled, as well as those unallocated for over eight months, reflecting TCS’s commitment to future-proofing its workforce while maintaining high-quality client services. Affected employees are being offered comprehensive severance packages, including three months’ notice pay, tenure-based severance of up to 1.5 years’ salary for those with 10–15 years of service and up to two years for those with over 15 years, and early retirement under the “TCS Cares” program, which provides full retirement benefits, insurance, and additional severance. TCS emphasizes that the restructuring is being conducted transparently and in compliance with labor laws, with active engagement with employees, labor authorities, and representative bodies. While expanding its technological capabilities and global presence, the company acknowledges international concerns regarding workforce management and visa employment practices and reaffirms its commitment to responsible employment while balancing organizational growth and innovation. TCS continues to be a global leader in IT services, consulting, and business solutions, serving clients across industries and driving digital transformation worldwide.
