During a meeting in Scotland with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, former U.S. President Donald Trump issued a final warning to Russia. He stated that Russia should stop its attack on Ukraine within less than two weeks. If not, the U.S. is prepared to impose new sanctions and severe tariffs. Trump had previously warned Moscow earlier this month that if Russia didn’t agree to a peace deal within 50 days, the U.S. would impose “very harsh tariffs.” However, on Monday, he said he would extend the deadline.
Speaking to reporters in Scotland, Trump said, “I’m going to set a new deadline of about 10 or 12 days starting today. There’s no point in waiting.” He added, “We are seeing no progress.” During the same interaction, Trump launched a harsh attack on London Mayor Sadiq Khan, calling him “a bad person” and described his work as “a disaster.”
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and other dignitaries were present during the meeting. Trump was staying at the Turnberry Golf Resort in Scotland on a four-day personal trip starting July 28. Although the visit was unofficial, a journalist's question quickly shifted the tone toward political discourse. When asked whether he would visit London in September, Trump jokingly said, “Yes, I will definitely visit London, but I’m not a fan of your mayor. He’s a bad person.” The statement instantly charged the atmosphere. Sitting next to Trump, Prime Minister Starmer responded, “He’s my friend.”
