YouTube's New Policy in Effect: Only Original and High-Quality Content to Be Promoted

YouTube has implemented a major policy update starting July 15, 2025, under its YouTube Partner Program (YPP), aimed at promoting originality and high-quality content. The platform has now officially replaced the term “repetitious content” with “inauthentic content” to better reflect its new focus. This change directly targets mass-produced, low-effort, and AI-generated videos that lack originality or viewer value. Under the updated guidelines, channels that post videos using stock visuals, auto-generated voiceovers, or templated slideshows without significant transformation or commentary may be demonetized. However, reused content is still allowed as long as creators add meaningful commentary, narrative, or educational value. Importantly, the eligibility criteria for monetization—such as having 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours—remain unchanged. YouTube is not banning the use of AI outright but urges creators to ensure their content is human-curated, creative, and engaging. The platform will use a mix of AI tools and human reviews to enforce these rules and evaluate channel authenticity. This policy aims to curb the growing trend of “AI slop” or content mills and preserve a healthy, innovative creator ecosystem on YouTube. Creators are encouraged to focus on originality, add personal touch and commentary, and avoid repetitive or copy-paste styles to stay monetized under the new rules.
