Big Relief for Central Government Employees: 30 Days of Paid Leave Without Salary Cut Announced

In a major relief to lakhs of Central Government Employees, the Union Minister of State for Personnel, Dr. Jitendra Singh, informed the Rajya Sabha that employees are entitled to 30 days of Earned Leave every year which they can use for personal reasons — including the care of elderly parents or dependents — without any salary deduction. Additionally, they are eligible for 20 days of Half-Pay Leave, 8 days of Casual Leave, and 2 Restricted Holidays, making a total of up to 60 days of leave annually.

This clarification came during a parliamentary session on July 24, 2025. The Minister stated that these provisions are part of the Central Civil Services (Leave) Rules, 1972, and are not temporary benefits. These leave rules ensure that employees can take necessary time off for personal or family care while retaining their full pay, provided they follow due procedures.

This announcement was seen as a positive step toward supporting work-life balance and mental well-being among government employees, especially those juggling professional duties with family responsibilities.
