Free Bus Service for School Students in the State, Government’s Major Step to Reduce Dropout Rate

There is good news for school-going students in the state. With the objective of reducing the dropout rate, the state government has decided to introduce free bus services for school students under the Chief Minister Bus Service Scheme. The proposal was put forward by the School and Mass Education Department and has been approved by the state government. An official notification in this regard has also been issued by the Transport Department.

Under this scheme, students will be able to avail free travel facilities in both AC and non-AC buses. While traveling, students must wear their respective school uniforms and carry a valid identity card (ID card). This will help ensure that the benefits of the scheme reach only eligible students.

To ensure effective implementation, OSRTC will revise the existing bus routes and timings. The revised routes will include roads with a higher concentration of schools, making it easier for students from both rural and urban areas to commute to school. This initiative is expected to be a significant milestone in promoting education across the state.
