Tight Security Arrangements in Puri for New Year, Influx of 4 Lakh Devotees Expected

In view of the massive gathering of lakhs of devotees and tourists in Puri on the occasion of the New Year, the administration has put in place stringent security arrangements. Anticipating the arrival of nearly 4 lakh devotees on New Year’s Day, Central Range DIG Dr. Satyajit Nayak has finalized a comprehensive security and traffic management plan.

Following a high-level review meeting with senior district officials, the Odisha Police have deployed 60 platoons of police force. In addition, a special command has been constituted comprising 10 Additional SPs, 33 DSPs and more than 300 subordinate officers to ensure effective supervision.

To maintain peace and law & order, strict traffic diversions, designated parking zones, barricading and public address systems have been arranged. These special measures have been taken to facilitate devotees visiting the temple as well as tourists gathering at the beach.

To preserve the sanctity of the festival, a ‘zero tolerance’ policy against anti-social activities has been adopted. Preventive action is being taken against known offenders under the National Security Act, and raids have been intensified to seize illegal narcotic substances. A 24x7 control room will remain operational to monitor the situation and respond promptly to any emergency.

The administration has appealed to devotees and tourists to maintain peace and discipline while offering prayers to Lord Jagannath and to enjoy the beach safely.
