SiCSem Breaks Ground for India’s First Compound Semiconductor Fab at Info Valley, Bhubaneswar

In a major boost to India’s semiconductor mission, SiCSem Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary of Archean Chemical Industries Ltd., performed the groundbreaking (Bhoomi Pujan) ceremony for its state-of-the-art Integrated Device Manufacturing (IDM) facility at Info Valley, Bhubaneswar.

The ceremony was graced by Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi, Union Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw (via video message), and Hon’ble Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling, along with senior officials, industry leaders, and representatives from IIT Bhubaneswar.

Backed by an investment of ₹2,067 crore, the project is the first compound semiconductor fab and ATMP unit approved by the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) under MeitY and supported by the Government of Odisha. Expected to be operational by 2027–28, it will process 60,000 SiC wafers annually and create over 1,000 direct jobs.

Chief Minister Majhi hailed the initiative as a “defining milestone” in Odisha’s journey toward becoming a national semiconductor hub under the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. Dr. Mahaling highlighted that Odisha’s progressive E&IT, Semiconductor, and AI policies make it a preferred destination for high-tech industries.

SiCSem has also partnered with IIT Bhubaneswar to establish the Silicon Carbide Research & Innovation Centre (SiCRIC) with an investment of ₹64 crore to boost R&D and industry-academia collaboration in advanced semiconductor technologies.

Managing Director Ranjit Pendurthi said the project would position Bhubaneswar’s Info Valley as a global hub for compound semiconductors and strengthen India’s path toward Atmanirbhar Bharat.
